In this project there are 4 parts that I have to complete which are; knowledge, comprehension, application and analysis. I chose "ballet" as the topic of my project. I want to learn more about it because I think this particular dance is very pretty and elegant.

The first step is called "knowledge". In this part, I have to collect information about my topic as much as I could. Therefore, I did some research about the basic movements in ballet and some of the glossary.

The second step is comprehension. In this part, I made a video to compare each of the movements. At first, I took a video of someone doing the 5 basic movements and sequence it. I put it into iMovie and for the back sound I recorded my own voice talking about the explanation.

The third step is the application part. in this part I have to do what I have learned which is doing the 5 basic movements. at first I wanted to make it into a video but then I thought it was boring because I already made a video in my Comprehension part. I tried to think about what I could do to apply the 5 basic movements in ballet but I couldn’t find it and I ran out of time so at last I decided to do the post. I wasn't very happy with my decision but this is the only thing that I could think of and do in a very short time. If I have one more change to do it, I want to do something that for certain better than this one.

The last thing that i have to do before i finish this project is to write my analysis paragraph, and this is my analysis paragraph:

I think I always communicate my understanding while doing this project. The first thing I did was by making a step by step and then creating a video to explain how to do the 5 basic movement. Llastly, I took photos of me doing the 5 basic movement.

The first way to communicate my understanding was by making the step by step of how to do the 5 basic movement in ballet. I did some research about the basic steps and found pictures of 5 of them and then give an explanation of how to do it by writing with my own words. I think this is not really effective because I only explained it by words and maybe not everyone could understand what I wrote.

Comparing each of the movements also one way of how to show my understanding. I compared the movements by making a short video to show it. At first I took a video from YouTube of someone doing it and sequence it, put it into iMovie and I talked about it.

I think my first and second way to demonstrate my understanding wasn't really really effective. Therefore, I decided to applying what I know, so I took photos of me doing all the 5 legs basic movements and explained it with my own words again. And I think this is the best way of communicate my understanding because people can see how I explain it and how I do it.

This is the video when I did the interview with my teacher:
Unfortunately, I wasn't prepared so I decided to utilize video of others that showing the material for the latest topic (basic leg movement).
Here I include the video that I made:

I think the easiest move out of these 5 basic movements are the first and the second. It is like a stand up straight and put both of the heels together. Slide a bit wider and voila that is the second position.

While for the difficult ones which are the forth and fifth position I don’t feel comfortable at all although both of the movements are in sequence. I feel like twisting my feet into unnatural position that makes me want to either tilt or stop doing it. This makes me wonder how could a ballerina stand to stand like that?Venyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07695142550490470497noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1234818201387052899.post-59268894933243953562011-04-21T22:13:00.000-07:002011-04-27T23:19:41.698-07:00Ballet as a ProjectIn ESL class, the students are allowed to choose a topic they would love to talk about. We should learn about it and put it into a project. I chose ballet as a topic because I think movements in ballet are really pretty and I want to know more about it. The ballerina is my inspiration because they look graceful when they dance. I limit my research to only the basic movements which are the legs and the arms.

In these 10 weeks I will do a trial of some of the ballet basic movement that covers the legs and arms. At last, I will video my effort and submit it to my teacher. If it is good enough, I will post it in my blog.

Some of the legs movements that I will try to learn:

First position:

Stand up with your feet together. Make your heels touch. Your left toes will face toward the left, and your right toes will face toward the right. Your feet nearly form a straight line except your toes point ever-so-slightly forward.

Second position:

From first position, transfer your weight to your left leg and slide your right foot sideways along the floor. Your right foot should remain turned out during this motion — that is, your right heel should stay forward, just as in first position.

Third position:

One foot is in front of the other with the of the front foot touching the middle of the back foot.

Fourth Position:

Go to the first position. The shoulders must be held square to the line of direction.

There are 3 different types of learning, which are visual learners (learn through seeing), auditory learners (learn through listening) and kinesthetic learners (learn through moving, doing and touching).

People who learn visually have to see the teacher's body language and facial expression to understand the lesson. They choose to sit in front of class so they can see the teacher's body language without any barrier. In learning process, they like to make like a diagram or pictures to help them understand about the topic.

The auditory types learn best through verbal lectures, discussions and debates. The sound of voice helps them to remember the topics. They prefer to sit and listen to the teacher rather than being involved like touching or moving.

A kinesthetic learner can't just sit for the whole period they may become bored. The best way to learn for them is being active an involved such as moving and doing. Exploring the surrounding helps them to understand.

I am a kinesthetic learner because I am easily bored when I have to sit and just listen. I need to move and touch stuff. Being actively involved is helping me to understand more. For example in the science class, I love to do experiment because it is fun and I can move around. But it is inevitable that many of the subjects are taught that way. Maybe it is me to improve the learning technique.
Venyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07695142550490470497noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1234818201387052899.post-65116070640726933742011-03-24T21:34:00.000-07:002011-03-26T20:27:52.402-07:00Sentences GameMy final project is; I have to make something to teach other people about sentences and I decided to make a board game.
The rule is very easy. Its just like the other board game. You just have to throw the dice and once you've got the number, you can't just go to the next box, you have to answer the question first. If you can't answer the question, you cant go to the next box.
I made this video using iMovie and for the musics and the recordings I use GarageBand. I do and don't enjoyed this assessment because it was fun when I have to choose the clips form the video but don't enjoyed when I have to choose what adjectives that I gonna use. It was hard. So firstly, I decided to make like a story about the clip that I already choose before and then I highlight the adjectives.

So, do you like my project? Is that detail enough?
Parts of speech are words that we put into categories. There are eight parts of speech. Noun is word that describes things, place, person or idea. Adjective is word that describes nouns. Adjective makes the nouns to be more specific.

In class, we use Brain Pop to help us in the learning process. Brain Pop is web that is designed to help us to understand school subjects. It provides video and quiz for each topic available. For example, in English they have grammar, writing, reading and so on. For each topic, they break it down to smaller parts such as adjective, adverbs and nouns. Personally, I think Brain Pop is not interesting but it helps to understand some subjects easily.

Other than Brain Pop we also use Google Docs in learning process. It is one of facilities provided by Google, which means, you have to have Google account to enjoy this service. Google Docs help us to share documents with friends when we do our group work. We agree to go online at certain time and do all the work together. I like the idea of using Google Docs because it is time and place efficient. Since this is new for me, I am glad that my teacher introduce this to me.

If in any way, I have to do a tutor in grammar, I would like to make it into a comic so it will be more interesting. I will put color, pictures, and characters to make it more appealing. While for words, I will choose simple ones to make it easy to understand.
As you know, one of my hobbies is playing football. And on last Friday, my team and I went to Jakarta International School to have a match in there. We leave from school at 2 pm and skip the last lesson. Before we go, Mr. Paul, our school principle gives us support for this match and hopefully we can win. Jakarta International School located in Pondok Indah in South Jakarta.

In this cup, we will play 5 games. We will against Global Jaya International School, Jakarta International School team A and team B, Sekolah Pelita Harapan, and Sekolah Tiara Bangsa. We already beat them in the last tournament so we have a change to win this match.

And at the end of this cup, we have to win have the same number of goal with Jakarta International B. So it is makes us have to win the last game if we want to get the first place. But we didn’t win, so we only get the second place. But we already play really well and I wish on the next match, we can get the first place.Venyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07695142550490470497noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1234818201387052899.post-37882891440489791572010-12-15T19:10:00.000-08:002010-12-15T19:10:49.923-08:00BambooThis is my first presentation for my science class:

If I have to write something about curiosity I will write about why should I learn history. It started when I was in grade 4, the first time I knew about history. I learned about World War I and II. There were so many parties involved and then each time they kept growing and created new countries. After one war was finished something changed for a while before another war erupted. I hate the feeling that I had to remember the chronologies and people and the place and the time and the events of what happened in each country such as the conference, and the pledges. Each event leads to another complicated event. It is like a never-ending circle.

Another topic that I dislike was about kingdom. Mostly it was about what has the king done such as the temple, the inscription, the royal and the people who work for them. There are so many kingdoms in Indonesia. Each of them has their own influences a philosophy and power to be the best. The complication starts when the kingdom was divided into two and at the same time, another kingdom was created, which means more things to remember.

The worst is, I have to memorize all of it accurately in order to pass the test. So in my head, it is full of the name of the people, the time, the places, the name of the kingdom, the religions, the reason it collapsed, the successor after the king died, the contents of the pledge and the effect of it, which I think all are useless. Until these days I still don’t understand what is the benefit of learning history. The heroes are died, the places was bombed, and the people are killed, it is all happened at the past and we cannot change even a thing, so why we have to learn history if there is no significance in the real life?Venyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07695142550490470497noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1234818201387052899.post-79858056577828723592010-11-25T16:49:00.000-08:002010-11-25T16:49:34.018-08:00Emotive LanguageI’ve learned about emotive language in ESL class. Emotive language is the words that can make people feel something. I learn about it because I will use the emotive language to make poster, slogan, and documentary to my project in my English class.

First, I use a thesaurus to find the words that I don’t understand and I use Google Docs to share the document with someone in my group. And then I chose two to four words each to make slides. After that, I learned about creative commons and copyright to find the creative commons images using Flickr.

I don’t really like this part because to find a creative commons picture is hard. Creative commons is something that we can use in public. After I found the great pictures, I start to edit and combine it using Picnik and post it in new slide using Google Docs presentation and print the images for class display. I love this part because I like decorating class. And the last step is writing my reflection about the process.

The most important thing I’ve learn here is when I use Google Doc to share with someone in my group because it’s very useful so we can do the project in the same document and in the same time.

Air is the most important element for human to survive. We need to breathe 13.5 kg of clean air and we can only survive 1-2 minutes without air. But, unfortunately dangerous air pollution in Jakarta is comprised of particles, chemicals or biological matter thrust into the air that causes damage to the fragile atmosphere. Jakarta is now known as the most polluted city in Asia. In this documentary, we provide the information of how pollution started, and most importantly we give the solutions of how to make the world a better place to live.

In ESL class, I made a poster for my documentary in my English class. My topic is “Air Pollution in
Jakarta”. The movie is almost finished. In language B my teacher asked me to make a poster for this movie. To make the poster, first, I have to find a creative commons pictures that match with my topic from “flickr”. This is the most frustrated part because the Internet is so slow and it’s so hard to find a good picture so I continue finding the pictures at home because it’s faster. I chose this picture because it tells people that the number of vehicles in Jakarta is too many and in my documentary I also mentioned that 70% of air pollution in Jakarta caused by vehicle. And then I uploaded that images into Big Huge Labs and added the title, tagline and credits.

The title of our documentary movie is “Living with Air Pollution”. The idea came up the first time when we made the poster. We discussed what was going to be the contents. Then Nathalie said, “How about Living with Air Pollution?” we talked about it for a while and decided to use it as the title. The reason behind it is because everyday three of us witness the making of pollution. When we go to school, we take off at the same time with people who go to the office. So, you can see the roads are filled with cars. Each of the cars is burning the fuel and produce smoke that pollutes the air. The question is “What if we calculate the smoke from all of the cars in Jakarta?” we take this as a consideration and decided to use it as a topic, which leads to the title.

In the poster, there is a tagline. Tagline is like a slogan that describes our movie and the slogan should be able to make people interested to watch our movie. My tagline is “It’s about Willingness, It’s about Change”. I think Big Huge Labs is a bit disturbing because I cannot preview what I’ve done. Writing taglines for my poster is quite difficult because we should be able to make people become curious and want to watch our documentary. My tagline was “ It’s All About Willingness, It’s all about Change”. I chose those words because in the documentary movie I want people to change the way the live so that air will be less polluted. And that is why in the documentary film, we provide solutions. Those solutions will work if there is willingness from the viewer to change the world.

I get the information for my research in Internet. And for my documentary, I have to make a blurb too. Blurb is like a synopsis about your film or documentary. In my blurb I also use emotive language because I want to make people feel something. And lastly, I hope people are going to watch my movie and moved by the idea of saving the world.

Language is playing big role in this whole project because with language I can say words and send the main point of this project. I cannot imagine how to work or let people know what I am trying to say without language.

It is not really difficult to choose the title because we already know the topic so the only challenges is to make it sounds interesting so that people want to watch our documentary movie.

The photo is picturing the every day scene of Jakarta around 5 o’clock. And as usual the roads are full of cars. And I think that picture represent the story of my documentary film. The picture that I choose for my documentary poster is a picture that describes the large number of vehicles in Jakarta. This is also the moment when the air is most polluted.

I think the most difficult part is when I have to make a blurb because when I made it I have to think about the readers. I want to be as persuasive as I can so that they want to watch the movie. It is also difficult when I have to tell the story without giving the whole idea to the readers; it has to be enough only as a teaser.

I think part of the unit were easy for me is when I make the poster. Because I only have to put the picture and a little bit information and I think it’s not hard.

I do and I don’t like doing this project. When we do the documentary film, it is teamwork. I enjoy it because I don’t have to do it by myself and things are faster since we do it together. But when I have to do the writing, I don’t really like it because basically I don’t like writing.
